What strange wonderful country Yemen is! Here the service of urban cleanness does not exist (except to San'a) and the rubbish accumulates everywhere, in the streets, in the sewers, on the doors of the houses, in the fields, even in the basins of collection of the waters, where boys plunge and where womankinds launder!
And the bags of rose plastic (that are used to deal the qat, the drug which produces a slow, costing, light addiction) are scattered everywhere. In a few countries it seems that the cultivation most diffuse in the fields is that of the qat's bags.
But how beautiful is San'a, with its high decorated palaces, embroideries made of stone and of plasters! Fantastic centers are strewn almost wherever on the mountains and in the deserts of Yemen, how many names overlap in the mind: Thula with the town strengthened between the rocks; Jibla with the queen's Arwa mosque; Kawakaban on a spur of dominant rock; the northern Shibam hidden at the feet of the rock and the southern Shibam with its skyscrapers made of mud bricks more ancient than four centuries;al-Hajjara that blunts between the fogs of the mountain with its embroideries made of stone; At-Tawila with its pretty squares and the minarets between the rock pinnacles!
And how is incredible the valley of the Wadi Dhahr with the Dar L-Hajar: the palace on the rock!
