It is the last one born among the countries of the world; it became independent only on May 2002.
It is formed by the eastern zone of the Island of Timor, in the southern part of the Indonesian archipelago, besides Ocussi enclave in the western part of the island. The territory is mountainous, with a chain central that touches lightly the 3.000 meters msl.
The capital is the small town of Dili (60.000 inhab) on the North coast.
