It is the ex Dutch Guyana, independent from 1975, grasp between French Guyana, Brazil and Guyana it is partially wetted from the Atlantic Ocean. On a not big surface only 400 thousand inhabitants live (density 3 inhab/ Kmq), almost all live in the capital: Paramaribo. It has been oppressed by a military dictatorship for the first part of the years '80; from 1987 the democracy and the Republic have been restored. It is a large sugar cane and rhum producer.
