Great state of center-western Africa, between the Saharan region and that Saheliana; it is almost 4 times greater than Italy, but its arid and desert territory is inhabited only from 9 abs / Kmq. It is constituted from a great plateau marked by the thick of the Air, that overcomes 2000 meters altitude and from the vast sandy dunes of the desert of the Teneré. To south the country is level and along the great river Niger is more intensely inhabited; here the capital Niamey rises also. The recent opening of the trans-Saharan way from Algiers to Niamey has opened wide doors of the desert to the most intrepid people!
