The state is constituted by the homonym great island (over 1.800 Kmqs) in the group of the Mascarenes in the Indian ocean to around 850 east Km of Madagascar. The island is very beautiful, of volcanic origin, undulated, with low and brief mountainous chains, covered for almost a third of the territory by a luxuriant tropical forest and almost entirely surrounded by a fantastic coral cliff. The fertility of the earths (sugar reed, the, corn and coconut palm are cultivated), the beauty of the landscape and the agreeability of the climate, fresh from May in October and damp heat in the other months, they make it very inhabited. In fact Mauritius counts more than a million inhabitants, for a density of over 540 abs / Kmq.
