It is an archipelago in the Indian ocean in the part north of the channel of the Monzambico The principal island is Great Comore that culminates in the volcano Karthala to 2.361 meters msl. The islands have tropical climate and to a large extent they are covered by forests. The island of Mayotte, that is geographically inclusive in the Comores, in reality it belongs to France.
